ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at the PM House here Monday and briefed the Prime Minister on his recent visit to Saudi Arabia and UAE.
He also apprised the Prime Minister on the overall security situation of the country.
The Prime Minister asked him to send a team of experts to Sri Lanka in order to exchange information in connection with the investigation about the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team at Lahore.

KARACHI: The PIA Management is determined for disciplinary and punitive action against such pilots who violated discipline and unauthorized absence from duty during the 'Go-Slow' causing unnecessary inconvenience to the traveling passengers and considerable financial losses to the airline, PIA spokesman said here on Monday.
He said pressure tactics by PALPA would not be allowed. Strict action would be taken for violating Corporation rules and regulations and not performing duties.
Discipline and authority has to be maintained for smooth and efficient functioning of the airline and in the best interest of the traveling public, efficiency and profitability of the national carrier.

MURREE: Pakistan Muslim League-N has renewed its demand for deletion of 17th amendment and putting former president Pervez Musharraf to trial under Article-6.
In a communiqué released after an important meeting here at Bhurban, the PML-N demanded of the PPP led government to waste no more time in restoring the Constitution to the position of pre-October 12, 1999.

SARGODHA: Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said if the nation and the media stands united with the Army, then any objective can be achieved. Talking to newsmen at the start of the PAF war exercises “Safron Bandit” at the Mushaf Air Base on Saturday, the COAS said the Pakistan Air Force played a vital role in an operation against extremists in Swat, adding that they were proud of armed forces of the country. He said he felt very proud of professional capabilities of the PAF and lauded the high quality of Pakistan Air Force’s exercises. Earlier, Gen Kayani, along with Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman, inaugurated the PAF war exercise “Safron Bandit 2009”. Senior PAF officials greeted the Army chief and the air chief on their arrival at the Mushaf Air Base.

LONDON: Former president Pervez Musharraf has stepped up his political activities here and is participating in Iftar parties, being hosted by his close associates. Sources said he told his friends at the Iftar parties that a negative impression being created in Pakistan about his meeting with King Abdullah was absolutely baseless. Meanwhile, former minister Amir Muqam has also arrived here to meet the former president.

ISLAMABAD: PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif will leave for Saudi Arabia on September 11 in the backdrop of a recent meeting between former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf and Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz. According to media reports, Nawaz Sharif, during his stay in Saudi Arabia, would hold talks with King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz and Saudi Intelligence chief Prince Muqran. The PML-N’s stance on the trial of Musharraf is likely to change after Nawaz’s visit to Saudi Arabia. A report from Jeddah said King Abdullah had decided to play his role in the matters related to the trial of former president Pervez Musharraf, besides narrowing down the differences among the political leadership of Pakistan.

[+]Swat militants kill two brothers

MINGORA: Militants in Khwazakhela opened fire on two brothers, killing one on the spot and injuring the other, on Saturday. The injured, identified as Rahat Ali, said the militants killed his brother Sher Ali and injured him in the Fatehpur area. He said the militants asked them why they were sitting with the police and then opened indiscriminate fire outside their house, leaving his brother Sher Ali dead. Meanwhile, a resident of Gulkada identified as Akhtar Ali died in the alleged custody of security forces. Dr Alamgir, father of the deceased youth, said his son had been picked by security forces on September 1 from his shop on suspicion.

LONDON: The British Foreign Secretary David Miliband has praised Pakistan’s fight against terrorism saying it has the support of people of that country as well as the international community. Talking to the media during his visit to the East London borough of Newham, site for the 2012 Olympics, to meet sports coaches and local community leaders, Miliband stressed the importance of good relations between its civilian government and military.
